What You Need To Know About The Future Accommodation Model
The Ministry of Defence (“MOD”) is considering how it can improve the accommodation available for service personnel. The aim is to make it fairer and more flexible, whilst keeping it affordable for the MOD. The MOD is proposing to do this by introducing the Future Accommodation Model (“FAM”) which will apply to serving personnel with families and those without, and will apply to serving personnel regardless of marital status.
The FAM will provide more choice to service personnel regarding where and with whom they live, making use of the private rental sector, alongside existing options. This means personnel will be able to live near their children’s school or their partner’s work place, if they choose, and their rent will be broadly the same as the equivalent type of SFA.
The FAM is under development by the MOD. The pilot was due to start in December 2018 but has been postponed to September 2019.
